Edwin Wesley Vreeland was born on 26 November 1910 at Newark, Essex County, NJ. He married Marian Maxwell Mackenzie, daughter of George Maxwell McKenzie and Wilhelmina McAlister Allan, on 1 June 1935 at Pawtucket, Providence County, RI. He died on 30 August 1996 at Ridgewood, Bergen County, NJ, at age 85. He was buried on 7 September 1996 in the Rosedale Cemetery in Orange (Whitenack-Craig lot.)
He grew up in Glen Ridge, attending the public schools and graduated from Glen Ridge HighSchool. (2) He attended Brown University, in Providence, RI. There he met his future wife, Marian Maxwell Mackenzie. Edwin graduated from Brown in 1933, (3) married Marian in Rhode Island in 1935 and moved back to New Jersey.(4.) His career was made in Banking and Life Insurance.(5.)
After they married, they lived in Glen Ridge, Matawan and Bloomfield, NJ with their daughter, Patricia Allan, before settling in Little Falls, Passaic, NJ. (3.)
Edwin was a Charter Member of the Little Falls Rotary Club andbecame a Life Member of Rotary International. He served as President of the Little Falls Unit from 1951-1952.(8.)
He and his wife, Marian, were active in the Union Congregational Church in Upper Montclair, Essex, NJ for almost 40 years.(9) Edwin and his wife were married two days shy of sixty years, when his wife died in 1994. Edwin is survived by two daughters, Mrs Patricia V. Boyle and Mrs. Pamela V. Aloia, seven grandchildren and eightgreat-grandchildren.(10.)
During WWII he was Civil Defense Director and later, DisasterControl Chairman for the Township of Little Falls from 1953 to1959.(6.)
Edwin had an interest in sports for most of his life. He played baseball both at Glen Ridge High School and his years at Brown University. He also played tennis for the Brown tennis team and later became an umpire for the Eastern Tennis Umpire's Association and the U.S.Tennis Umpire's Association. (7.)

Elias Vreeland was born on 28 June 1697 at Gemonepa, NJ.1 He married Maritje Van Hooren, daughter of Rutgert Van Hoorn and Ruth, on 11 May 1723 at Bergen Church, Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ.1,2 He died before 20 March 1775.1
He lived at Wesel, Acquackanonck, NJ.1 By deed dated 7 Jun 1750, Elias J. Vreeland yeoman of Acquackanonk (Essex) to Dirick Vreeland 'Whereas Johannes Michaelse one of the Patentees of Acquackanonk aforesaid in his lifetime and at the time of his death was entitled to one fourteenth part of the Lands within bounds of Achquecknonk aforesaid and also to some Salt Meadows lying within the bounds of Newark in said County and also to one fourth Part in a Tract of Land and Meadow joining to the Patent of Acqueckanonk heretofore purchased of one Stofel Hoogelant commonly called and known by the name of the Point and the said Johannes Michaelse (in said Patent so called) by his last Will and Testament did Bequeath all his said Lands and Meadows to his two sons Dirrik Vreland and Elias J. Vreeland to be by them divided in such manner as they should think Equitable.' Book G3, page 403, Secretary of State's Office, Trenton, NJ. In the deed mention is made of Jacob Vreeland and Enoch Vreeland, owners in the Point.
