He married secondly to the widow of Arent Stamm. She died in 1670.
In 1636/37, Jean returned to New York where he was one of the most famous colonists, filling high offices all of his life: he was appointed to the Governor Stuyvesant's Council, serving from 1647-1655. He was in chief military command in Manhattan 1640-1645 and Vice Director General, Fort Orange 1656-1664. He also practiced medicine for some years in Harlem where he acquired a 200 acre farm. He was one of the most attractive personages of his time.¹
