     Tjerck Claessen DeWitt was born in 1620 at Grootholt, Sunderlant, Westphalia, Germany.³ He married Barbara Andriessen, daughter of Andries Luycaszen and Jannetje Sebyns, on 24 March 1656 at New Amsterdam.^1,3 He died on 17 February 1700.¹
     In 1663 he served as commissary and later as sargeant in the Ulster County Militia. Tjerck settled in Wiltwyck (Kingston) in 1672.
