Frederick William Duell was buried in Glens Falls.1 He was born on 20 November 1833.1 He married Cordelia Wright after 1855.1 He died on 10 September 1917 at age 83.1
     (From C.C.D.Burley)
Frederick William worked for Matthew Mead on Landon Hill. He was there, single, in 1855, age 21. He lived in a part of the Matthew Mead house. When he and Cordelia were married, they lived in the same place. He was an excellent carpenter and builder.
Frederick married (2) 24 June 1875 in Queensbury, Adeline Emigh. They moved to Shelving Rock, Fort Ann, Washington Co. on the east side of Lake George where he worked at his carpenter trade. He worked with Frederick E. Duell on the Knapp estate and gave him some beautifel old tools, which in the 1950's were given to the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake.
While F.W. was at Shelving Rock, his daughter Nellie, aged 20 and engaged to be married, worked at a hotel. One day she looked out of a window and, waving at people in boats below lost her balance and fell out of the window. She died of her inhjuries, but not before she made her brother promise to carry out his plans for his own wedding on her birthday. She is buried in the Jenkins cemetery.
F.W. and his second wife lived at Shelving Rock about 30 years, after which they separated; she going to Bolton, he to his son and daughter-in-law on Gansevoort Rd. in Moreau. She died in 1941.1

Warren Higley Duell was buried in the Bay St. Cemetery in Glens Falls.1 He was born on 9 August 1810 at Chestertown, NY.1 He married Sybil Smith on 14 February 1833.1 He died on 10 April 1897 at Glens Falls, NY, at age 86.1
     (from C.C.D.Burley)
Warren and Sybil lived in a log house on Landon Hill for some years after they

were married. Twins Joseph and Josephine were born there. Warren later built a clapboard house on the northwest edge of the village of Chestertown. It was said that everybody in town used to drive by on a Sunday afternoon to see and admire the family's beautiful flowers.
Warren Duell was a soldier in the Civil War. After he had served for a time he was taken prisoner and in time released by the Confederates under a Safe Conduct from General Lee, being honoe bound not to retuen to fight until there was a regular exchange of prisoners. This he abided by, but as soon as he could honorably do so, he reenlisted. His son FrederickWilliam, disagreed with him very strongly on his political position and wrote a scathing letter to his father about Abraham Lincol and his 'black Republicans.' This letter was yet another illustration of the way families were divided by the War. It was found in a wall of the house in Chestertown when the house was undergoing renovation in the 1950's. Warren was discharged on 19 June 1863 and again 6 Feb. 1866. Both discharges describe him as being five feet nine inches high, having a light complexion and hazel eyes and brown hair. Occupation - carpenter.
In his old age Warren married (2) 1 Apr 1877, Christine Morrill Whitting Davis, mother of his son Joseph Duell's wife, in order that the son's family would receive the benefit of his pension from the Army after his death.
