     He was educated in the regional school and Chester Academy. He has remained a farmer throughout his life.

     James Durland was born on 22 April 1789. He died on 10 June 1802 at Chester, Orange County, NY, at age 13.
     James and Thomas were both drowned in Mill Pond, Chester, NY when young.¹

     James and brother Samuel started a mercantile business in 1833. Samuel died in 1833 and the business continued with brother Thomas until 1837 when it was sold to M.C. Denton. James was the first person to ship milk to New York City by railroad from Orange County.

     Jonas Durland was born on 15 February 1803 at Chester, Orange County, NY. He married Abigail Little. He died on 3 June 1865 at age 62.
     Jonas first settled on a farm in Minisink; in 1830 he purchased 190 acres in Goshen and in 1847 built the family homestead. Jonas was mentioned in his father's will.^2,3

     Joseph Durland was born on 17 March 1762. He married Martha Board on 1 April 1787. He married Sarah Sally Satterly on 4 June 1799. He died on 28 August 1828 at age 66.
     He was a scout during the close of the Revolutionary War. He left a will on 1 March 1820 at Goshen, Orange County, NY. It was proved 8 Sep 1828. Samuel was the only one of Joseph's siblings mentioned in the will.^1,2

     Joseph Durland was born on 16 March 1832. He married Nancy Kingsland Board on 25 February 1857. He died on 18 October 1910 at age 78.

     Oscar entered the milk business in NYC and later bought the Marvin farm about 2 miles outside of Chester.

     Rosanna Durland was born on 16 April 1772. She married Peter Holbert on 25 August 1789. She died on 15 May 1839 at age 67.

     Samuel joined his brother in the family store in 1862, having bought out the other partners. He retired after 10 years and Joseph continued alone.

     Samuel Satterly Durland was born on 17 December 1804. He married Amelia Vernon on 23 September 1829. He died on 30 November 1833 at age 28.
