Johannes Mauritius Goetchius was born on 7 January 1750/51 at Schraalenburgh (Bergenfield), NJ.1 He was born on 1 July 1751 at Schraalenburgh, Bergen County, NJ, (Source 2, B3 reports the birth date as Jan 7, 1751.)3,2 He was christened on 21 July 1751 at Schraalenburgh (Bergenfield), NJ.4,2 He married Annatje Decker in 1773.5 He died in 1828.6,7 He died in 1828.1
According to the Descendants of Jan Zaborowski, Johannes Goetchius, son of Rachel Zabriske and John Hendrick Goetchius, was born 1 July 1751 and chr 21 July 1751 at Schraalenburgh. The article says he may have lived in New Paltz or Rockland Co, NY as has been claimed, but this is doubtful. He lived in the Glen Rock area of the Old Saddle River Twp. He owned land in the Garfield area. In 1827 he helped found the 2nd Reformed Church of Totowa (later Paterson, NJ) and was chosen Elder at the time. He died in 1828 according to records of the church. His will was dated 8 May 1826 and proved 12 Mar 1828. In it he mentioned his wife Hannah, sons John (dec), Henry, Jacob, Daus. Polly, Rachel (dec), Sally Peggy Hannah, Elizabeth and Hetty; grandchildren John, Hetty Rachel and Catherine all children of Rachel; Lands mentioned were some along the Passaic River.
He married Annetje Dedite (One record said he married Maria Decker; another says Hannah Decker of New Paltz, but nothing found indicates the correctness of Decker, although the spellings could be for Decker. She is lited in his will in 1827 but not in the church records with him in 1827.
Children of Johannes Goetchius and Annetje Dedite are listed as Maria, chr 7 Jan 1775 at Paramus, m Jacobus Doremus; Hendrick b 7 Feb 1776; John m Jannetje Ackerman; Rachel m Egbert Bruyn; Hendrick, chr 4 Nov 1780 at Schraalenburgh, married Sarah VanBussum; Margaret b 27 Nov 1782, chr at Hackensack, m John Marinus, Jr; Sarah, b 18 Feb 1785, chr at Kakiat, NY, m Johannes Post and Richard Banta; Hannah m 22 Sep 1811 at Passaic, John J. MotherEsther Werdtlin b. c 1689
John Hendrick Goetchius was born on 4 March 1713/14 at Canton Zuerich, Switzerland, (Two Goetschius files have the place as Canton Zuerich, and year as 1718 or 1714-1718; Holmes file has 4 Mar 1713/14 in Switzerland; Post File has 8 May 1718 in Switzerland; several others have only a year.)2,3,4,5,6,7,8 He married Unknown.9 He married Anna Maria Holman circa 1739 (Handwritten note under 'other marriages' reads as follows:
buried abandoned ground of true ref. ???Hack???... stone erected by sons.)9 He married Rachel Zabriske, daughter of Jan (John) Zaborowski and Margrietje Durie, on 26 August 1749 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA, ((or abt 1750, prob. in Philadelpha.)10,11) He married Rachel Zabriske, daughter of Jan (John) Zaborowski and Margrietje Durie, on 26 August 1750 at Dutch Reformed Church, Hackensack, Bergen County, NJ.1,11 He died on 14 November 1774 at Bergenfield, Bergen County, NJ, at age 60 (One source reports place of death as 'probably Hackensack, Bergen County, NJ,' one might have the year as 1772. Not all include County.)12,13,4,14,1 He was buried in the South Presbyterian Cemetery in Bergenfield (Find-a-grave has burial in South Schraalenburg.)1,15 This source has him buried in True Reformed Church on Hudson St. in Hackensack.16
NOTE: While there seems to be quite a bit of confusion about his birth date, "The Goetschi Family" by Ruth Heidgard has the date as 4 March 1718 and the place as Berneck, with a transcription of the baptismal register (see. )      From Holmes File:
We are descended from John Hendrick (Henry) Goetchius. His granddaughter Hannah Goetchius married Edwin FitzRandolph. Family history has John Hendrick parents as Mauritus Goetchius and Esther Werndtlin. John Henry Goetchius was born in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland about 1714. The History of Hudson and Bergen Counties says he was born in Liguria Switzerland in 1718 and came to America with his father in 1728. He preached on Long Island until he came to Hackensack, NJ and preached there until 1748 when he took charge of the Church at Schraalenburgh where he preached until his death in 1774.
The history of the Zabriske family states Rachel Zabriske was married to Rev Johan Hendrick Goetchius, son of Maurice Goetchius and Esther Werndtlin, 26 Aug 1750 at Hackensack. It says he was the storm center of the Reformed Churches from the day he landed in Philadelphia in 1735 until his death 14 Nov 1774. When he came to Philadelphia with his father, who died upon arrival, he became the boy-wonder preacher of the area covering about 20 churches, all without legal ordination.
In 1741 he became legally ordained by Dorsius, Frelinghuysen and the Presbyterian Tenant to test the requirement that all theological candidates must return to Holland for ordination. In his first parish in Jamica, Long Island, his ordination was challanged. Word from Holland was slow and a result the delay resulted in a breach between the conservative party and liberal coetus. In 1748, he was vindicated by Dutch officials, and he moved to Bergen County. Here in addition to serving his parishioners, he tutored young men for the ministry. Eventually his theological students became the nucleus of Queens College, now Rutgers University. He became one of its first trustees (Info from Ruth Heigard of New Paltz, NY). He married Anna Holman and Magdelena Christie. He was buried in the south Schraalenburgh Reformed Church with his first wife, Rachel Zabriske.
Children of Rachel Zabriske and Rev Johan Hendrick Goetchius are listed as Johannes, b July 1751, chr 21 July, married Ann Dedite; Rev Stephen b 25 Oct 1752, married Elizabeth DuBois; Abraham b 12 Sep 1754, married Jannetje Campbell and Rachel --; Jacob, b 12 July 1756; Peter, b 1 Apr 1758, married Catherine Eckhart; Joseph, b 5 Sep 1760, married Jannetje Blauvelt and Catherine Lutkins; Samuel, b. 18 Sep 1762, married Elizabeth, Martha Strachen and Susannah; Margaret b 7 Jan 1765 married Jonathan Dubois and Christian b 14 July 1769, married Aaltje Blauvelt.
Information about his relationship with Rutgers and Rev War may be found in United Churches of Hackensack and Schraalenburgh and America Revolution in the Hackensack Valley.1

Moritz Goetschi was born between 26 September 1685 and 1686 at Zurich, Switzerland, (Holmes and Post Files have date as between 26 September 1685 and 1686, Goet9 just has 1686.)3,4,5 He married Esther Werdtlin on 24 February 1710 at Switzerland (The Post/Poste File has the date as 24 February 1710. The Holmes file has date as "25 Jul 1709-1710", and the Goet9 file has 1709 in Switzerland.)2,6,7 He died on 30 May 1735 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA.1,2,8
NOTE: "The Goetschi Family" by Ruth Heidgerd has the date of Moritz' birth as 26 Sep 1686 in Zurich, and the marriage as 25 Jul 1710 in Zurich.9      Little is known about Maurice Goetchius except that he was the father of John Hendrick Goetchius. His wife was Esther Werdtlin. The History of Hudson and Bergen County states the father's name was John Henry - however, I feel this was a confused error. It states he was born in the Canton of Zurick, Switzerland in 1695 and came to America about 1728 and preached in the valleys of the Susquehanna and Delaware in PA, and at Skippah.

The Zabriske geneology states he came to America leading a group of about 400 emigrants from Switzerland and had been delegated supervision of the reformed churches in PA. However, he died upon arrival in PA, and his son John Henry became the boy-wonder.

Goetchius Family in America, Sinclair NJ C8 71.G5953 1984 - The Rev. Maurice Goetchius was a minister canton of Zurich. He was born in 1865, was a minister in 1710. He died the day he landed in Philadelphia. His sons were John Hendricus Goetchius and John Mauritious Goetchius. Moritz Goetschy was born in Zurich 26 Sep 1686. His parents were Rudolph Goetschy and Magdelana Kolloger. He was married in 1710. Children are listed on the family sheet. Moritz was an outstanding scholar. He remained in Salazar until 45 when he was surrounded by scandal. Barbel Rudisuhi, a maid servant, had an illegitimate son Johannes born 21 Jan 1731 - Pfarren Goetschy - father. Barbel was expelled, died in Marpach 10 Mar 1731. The child also died.
