He and Mary Ann Ashbey appeared on the census of 1860. Mary Emma Ashbey were enumerated with them. The Moses birth date of 1829 we have in McDonald family records is that of Moses, Jr found in the 1860 Census living in his father's house with Eliza Ashbey, age 17, born New York.

Although the 1860 Census lists Moses occupation as a farmer, he was most likely a seaman and fisherman, as were most of his brothers.
