Julia Morgan was born circa 1846 at Ireland or England.1 She married Patrick Durham circa 1862 at Ireland or England.1 She died on 31 May 1904 at Hoboken, Hudson County, NJ.2 She was buried in the Holy Name Cemetery.1
Julia Morgan was born in Ireland in 1840. Julia immigrated from Ireland to America between 1863 and 1866 with her husband Patrick Durham and her son John, who was born in Ireland in 1863. It is not known where they first settled. Their second child Patrick was born in 1866. It is not known where he was born but it may have been in Canada. The third child was Mary (born 1870), fourth child Thomas (1872).The fifth child was Anna (1876). All were found on the 1880 census in Hoboken. I do not know when Julia and Patrick died.3 Married name: Durham.

Mary Virginia was born October 7, 1897 in Groton. She attended the District County School in Poquonnock, the Groton Heights School, Williams Memorial Institute and Connecticut College. She taught many years in the Groton Public School, serving as head of the homebound department and acting principal at Noank School during World War II. She taught at Fitch Junior High and Fitch Senior High. After retiring from public schools she established her own Mary Virginia Morgan Private School in Waterford. Mary Virginia was inducted into Groton Education Association's Hall of Fame in November 1987.
Mary Virginia was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a regent of the Anna Warner Bailey chapter for three terms, and was a member of many other ancestral societies. She was a descendant of Uncas, the famous Mohegan Chief. She knew a great deal of Indian history and possibly her most famous boast is that she was able to count to twelve in the Mohegan language.
A colorful, outgoing, and locally revered figure, Mary Virginia was subject of a 2000 play written by Noank poet/playwright Melanie Greenhouse, called "The Duchess of Noank," a loving portrait of one of the town's most colorful characters, Mary Virginia Goodman created the character "Duchess of Noank", during one of her many travels to England in order to gain access to a Lord's estate she wished to visit after her spraining her ankle and being unable to join the rest of the touring party.
