     James Augustus Romeyn was born on 15 May 1853 at Blauenbergh, Somerset County, NJ.¹ He married Flora May Cochran, daughter of John C Cochran and Baumgatter, on 3 June 1884.¹ He married Susie Burgess Conover, daughter of John N Conover and Margaret DeWitt, on 14 November 1894.¹
     He was in 1894 a lawyer and editor of the Bergen Record.¹

     Jan sailed from Rotterdam to Brazil in 1650. He came to Long Island in 1654. On 9 Mar 1679 he bought a plantation in Gravesend where he lived for several years. In 15 May 1696 Major John Berry conveyed to Claes land that lay between the Hackensack and Saddle Rivers, adjoing land of Albert Albertse Terhune and Urian Luberts.²

     Jan Claesen Romeyn married Lammetje Bogert, daughter of Jan Cornelis Bogert and Angenietje Stryker, on 20 May 1699 at Reformed Church, Hackensack, NJ.^1,2 He died in 1763.³

Vreeland files has date as 13 June.)^1,2 She died on 24 April 1829 at age 68.¹ She was buried in the Wesel Rd Cemetery (This is the family burying ground a short distance south of Market St. Her tombstone bore the sentiment:
When overwhelmed with grief
My heart within me dies
Helpless and far from earth
To Heaven I lift mine eyes.)¹
