Solomon attended public school, Unionville Academy, Farmers' Hall Academy. He then began to study medicine with B.W. Thompson, MD of Goshen. He graduated from Albany Medical School in 1855. He set up practice in Port Jervis but served with the 56th Reg't of the NY State Volunteers during the Civil War. He was a brilliant surgeon and retired with the rank of Lt. Col. Maria's father came from Waverly, NY. (See.
