Joris Jansen Rapalje and Catalina Trico emigrated in 1624 from Leyden (on board the 'New Netherlands', they settled in Albany then later moved to Brooklyn (where the US Navy yard is).)6,7 Joris Jansen Rapalje was a silk weaver. Joris settle in Fort Orange (Albany) in 1624 and left in 1626 for lower Manhattan. He opened the first hotel or public inn. They grew food in their own garden. He bought land from the Indians on Long Island and built the family homestead there.8 Name variation: Georges Rapallier.8
