He was a member of the Mystic Encampment, International Order of Odd Fellows, and the Quiambaug Volunteer Fire Department.4,5

Walter George Truss was born on 26 November 1859 at Barnwood near Gloucester, England. He married Ada Mary James, daughter of John James and Ellen Whiting, on 30 April 1882 at New York, NY, (They were married by Rev. D. L. Hughes, father of Justice Charles Evans Hughes, at his home.)1 Walter George Truss was buried in March 1935 in Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. He died on 5 March 1935 at Mystic, CT.

In 1881 British Census, occupation is noted as Carpenter/Joiner
According to Beverly Lathrop's research, the family immigrated from Liverpool, England 7 Sep 1882 aboard the HMS Brittanic, and lived in Brooklyn, NY from 1882 - 1917. Her records indicate that Walter was naturalized in New York City June 21, 1888. However, other family members recall that Walter traveled back to England for some time because of business interests in England.
The UK 1901 Census has Walter and Ada living at the Hole in the Wall Inn, Hill End, Droitwich, St Nicholas. Daughters Elsie and Nelly are recorded at being born in Brooklyn, NY. The other children are recorded as being born in Bromsgrove or Droitwich. Walter's occupation at the time is given as "Licensed Victualler".
1910 US Census for Brooklyn, Kings, NY finds Walter G and Walter J Truss as Lodgers without family. We hold in file a copy of the ship's List or Manifest of Alien Passengers Sailing for the United States aboard the SS Baltic, 28 May 1910, listing Ada Mary with children: Nellie, Jessie, George, Claribel, Harry, and Donald.3,1,4,5

Walter Joseph Truss was born on 17 August 1889 at Brooklyn, NY. He married (1) Margaret Hyatt. Walter Joseph Truss married (2) Ethel Hyatt. Walter Joseph Truss died on 20 February 1984. He was buried on 29 February 1984 in Arlington National Cemetery.

Walter Joseph Truss was an engineer. Ethel Hyatt was born in England. WW I Draft Registration Card lists him as married, living at 3403 Beaufort (not legible) Ave New York; born in Brooklyn, and employed as a Clerk Engineer at the Board of Engineers (not legible) at the Army Building. He is described as tall, slender with blue eyes and auburn hair.
He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Army in 1917, serving in New York. In 1921 he was assigned ast a civil engineer to San Juan, Puerto Rico, becoming fluent in Spanish. His projects there included dredging of San Juan harbor, providing fill for the extension of Isla Grande Airport, restoring battlements at El Moro Castle, and building fortifications in anticipation of a Nazi invasion. He was appointed a Colonel and assigned as District Engineer for the Caribbean District. In 1945 he was assigned to the European Theater to conduct fortifications analysis. His last assignment was at the Pentagon. After retirement from the Army, he worked as a consultant for Parsons and Brinckerhoff in New York, with assignments in San Salvador, Ecuador, and Peru.
In retirment he resided in St. John, V.I.2,3
