Absalom fitz Randolph is named as the father of Edwin Fitz Randolph in at least two places. First, in the History of Bergen County; second, in the FitzRandolph Genealogy by Christian-FitzRandolph/Stelle. This genealogy lists Absalom FitzRandolph as the son of Justus FitzRandolph and Nancy Robbins, born in Short Hills, NJ 8 Aug 1790; married 21 Nov 1812 Hannah Budd, and died 1829. Children listed are Edwin b 19 Nov 1813; Anna; Warren, and Hiram (apprenticed in 1825 at age 10.5)(B. 1814).
Chapter 1, Scotch Plains Baptist Church, page 7 lists the Battle of Short Hills 26 Jun 1777. The area is Scotch Plains, part of Somerset County, adjoining Union County. As the present Short Hills of New Jersey was not founded until a much later date, it is believed that references to Short Hills refers to Scotch Plains, NJ.
Although I could locate no other record of the birth of Absalom Fitz Randolph, his marriage to Hannah BUDD is recorded in Bergen County Marriages, page 60 (by Westervelt 974.921) 21 Nov 1812 in Old Bergen, now Jersey City. Supposedly the marriage took place in the Old Bergen Church. The minister listed in the records is John Cornelison, V.D.M..
Other than the record of death by Christian-FitzRandolph Stelle in 1829, family records from Mary Block show 17 Aug 1829. No place is given. Mary also lists Hannah BUDD FitzRandolph death as 1833, with her body removed from Moonachie in 1852 and buried in plot 144 at New York Cemetery in Hackensack.1 Name variation: Absalom Fitz Randolph.2,3

"History of Bergen County (Van Valen)" lists the father of Justice as Basil of Virginia. "The Descendants of Edward Fitz Randolph" by Stelle-FitzRandolph lists the father as Benjamin Fitz Randolph. However, they admit to a glitch.
First, Benjamin could be the son of Jeremiah Fitz Randolph and Ruth Dunn who had a son Benjamin, no date for birth given. They also had a son Jeremiah b abt 1740. This date appears to be 'off' and out of sequence with the other children whose births are 1775, 1765, and 1775.
Second, he could have been the son of Jeremiah (son of Jeremiah and Ruth Dunn) born about 1767. Whichever way, the family line comes from Jeremiah FitzRandolph and Ruth Dunn. Benjamin is either the son or grandson of Jeremiah and Ruth Dunn.
Third, The family of Benjamin FitzRandolph and either ----Woodruff or Phebe Tucker (Tooker) are Justus, b. Short hills 6 Dec 1761; Sarah; Charlotte; Louise; Isaac; Phebe and Salina.
Fourth, A card in the LDS Library lists Benjamin Fitz Randolph as the father of son Justus born 6 Dec 1761. No mother is listed. The card has info stating Justus married Nancy Robbins in 1788.

NOTE: The GSBC welcomes more information on this line. If Justus is a son of Benjamin, Benjamin cannot have been born later than 1741, which makes it impossible for him to be a son of Jeremiah (son of Jeremiah and Ruth Dunn.)1,4 Name variation: Benjamin Fitz Randolph.2,3

From the Descendants of Edward FitzRandolph (by Louise Aymour Christian and Howard Stelle FitzRandolph, 1950):
Edward FitzRandolph, the Pilgrim, and the progenitor of the Fitz Randolph family in America, was undoubtedly the Edward FitzRandall son of Edward FitzRandolph or Randall and his second wife Frances Howis (Howes) baptised at Sutton on Ashfield CO Nottingham, England 8 Jul 1607. Fitz Randolph Traditions by the late Lewis Van Syckel Fitz Randolph gives much on the English antecedants of the family.
Among the 700 passengers who ame over in the 11 vessels which comprised the 'Winthrop Fleet' and which was known as the great immigration of 1630, was Edward FitzRandolph, who settled at Scituate, MA. Pastor Lathrop's diary asserts that the young Master Edward Fitsrandolph built the 38 house in Scituate, MA. He married in Scituate 10 May 1637, Elizabeth Blossom, the daughter of Elder Thomas Blossom and his wife Ann Heilson (Eilsdon, Elsden, Elston, Alston) who were married at St Clements, Cambridgeshire, Eng 10 Nov 1605. Elizabeth was born in Leyden, Holland in 1620 soon after her parents were forced by the conditon of the Speedwell - the companion boat to the Mayflower - to return to Holland where so many of their persecuted friends had sought refuge with Pastor Robinson.
Edward and Elizabeth moved from Scituate to Barnstable, MASS in 1639 and his name appears in the list of those able to bear arms in New Plymouth in 1643. In 1649 Edward moved from Barnstable to his farm, a great double lot in West Barnstable, and in 1669, with his wife and 6 of his children, he sought a new home in Piscataway, NJ.
In the 'Book of Records' of Nathanial FitzRandolph it states that Edward lived to be nearly 80 years old. It is often stated that Edward died in Piscataway in 1675/76 which would only make him about 68/9 at his death so it is probable that he lived until 1684/5. After Edward's death, Elizabeth gave her four sons, John, Joseph, Thomas and Benjamin on 26 Jun 1685 the land she had located in her husband's name and on 30 Jun 1685 she married Capt John Pike of Woodbridge. Family history has it that she was buried by her first husband in the west corner of what is now St James Churchyard in Piscataway, NJ. During the Revolution as the British troops came down King George's Highway (now Woodbridge Ave) breastworks were thrown across the plot, and after the war was over and the ground leveled, no trace was found of the tombstones of either Edward or Elizabeth.
Further notes regarding the children and their marriages were found in the LDS Library under the Rutgers Collection.1 Name variation: Edward Fitz Randolph.4,5

Edwin FitzRandolph was the father of my great-grandmother Harriet FitzRandolph, wife of Louis Kruger. A record given to me by cousin Mary Block lists the children and many other descendants. Among the 16 children was Harriet, born in 1852.The will of Edwin F. Randolph, proved 19 Dec 1887, lists daughter Harriet Kruger, wife of Louis Kruger.
The obituary of Edwin F. Randolph states he was born in Jersey City 19 Nov 1813. Further, it states he was married to Hannah Goetchius 10 Nov 1833 by Rev. Mr. Provost, a Methodist Devine of that day.
The article states that he came to Boiling Spring, a little hamlet that was afterward called Rutherford (NJ) in 1857, purchasing a farm of some 40 acres near union Avenue which he reportedly sold one year after. It states he was a member of the union cause until Methodists became to popular they built a church on the east side of the track (East Rutherford) taking Mr. Randolph with them. The article cites the 50th wedding anniversary celebration which was held at their home on Patterson Pland Road, where he had purchased an extensive tract of land. Family history states that many homes of family members were built on his land, namely on Randolph Avenue which adjoins Patterson Plank Road. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother lived on Randolph Avenue.
Edwin F. Randolph's death was listed a 1 Nov 1887. He is buried in New York Cemetary, Hudson Street, hackensack, lot 145 with his wife and some of his children and family.
The obituary of Hannah F. Randolph lists her as a daughter of Henry Goetchius, a farmer, and was born in Paterson 2 Nov 1816. At her death, there were nine children named, one of whom was Mrs. Louis Kruger. Family history has her death 28 Feb 1890.
The 1850 Federal Census lists the family in 'New Barbados', Edwin age 38, Hannah Ann, age 36, and 7 children ranging in age from 16 - 1 years. The 1840 Federal Census of New Barbados lists an Edward F. Randolph, between 20-30, and 4 females, 2 under 5; 1 under 10 and 1 between 20-30. The 1860 federal census of the Township of Lodi lists Edwin F. Randolph, age 48 as a frame maker; wife Hannah, age 46; children from ages 20 to 1, including harriet age 9. The 1870 Census of Union Township lists Edwin, age 57, retired grocer; Hannah 55; children (4) 14-22, not including Harriet. (Page 7). The 1880 Census shows Edwin Randolph, 67, horticulturist; wife Hannah, 64, and Hannah, Phebe and John, ages 32-23. No Harriet with them.
An article 'Half a Century of Wedded Life', written about Edwin and wife celebrating their anniversary in their home on Paterson Plank Road. It describes how he was a descendant of the Fitz Randolph stock of Virginia, and was born in Jersey City, 19 Nov 1813. Although Jersey city is now Hudson County, at the time it was bergen County. The article states that although Mr. Randolph moved, he has always lived in Bergen County. The article states Mr. Randolph was hired as a Toll Gate keeper beyond Hackensack and remained there 21 years and 6 months. The balance of his married life has been spent in Moonachi, Lodi and his present home. There were 16 children, 6 of whom died in infancy, and one son, married with four children, is deseased. At the time of the writing, there was one son who lived with him, and 8 girls and 21 grandchildren.
A discrepancy remains regarding family geneology. The History of Bergen County lists Edwin F. Randolph as being born in Jersey City 9 Nov. 1812. Further, it states his father was Absalom FitzRandolph whose father was Justice F. Randolph, born in Elizabeth. The history lists Justice F. Randolph's father as Basil F. Randolph, born in Virginia. However, there appears to be no record of a Basil F. Randolph. There is no documentation of this history.
While searching with cousin Mary Block in the NJ State Archives, we came across a FitzRandolph Geneology written in 1950 by Louise Aymer Christian and Howard Stelle FitzRandolph. This geneology lists the Fitz Randolph family from Edward Fitz Randolph of England (1607-1784) through Joseph, Joseph, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Justus, Absalom and Edwin F.(1813-1887). As much as this is believable, there is a 'glitch' with the Benjamin, father of Justus. There is question of which Benjamin this is and who the wife is, although Justus is listed as a son. Given this 'glitch' occurs at the same point where the Bergen County history states the father of Justice is Basil from Virginia, there remains a question in the family line. Further studies in the LDS library have only turned up 'documentation' using the Christian-Steel Fitz Randolph geneology. Records from Rutgers, copied by the LDS Church, give no information.1
Mary also lists Hannah BUDD FitzRandolph death as 1833, with her body removed from Moonachie in 1852 and buried in plot 144 at New York Cemetery in Hackensack.1 Name variation: Edwin Fitz Randolph.2,3
