     Parents of Simon is unproven, but consistent with matching records with RDC Second River and RDC Stone House Plains and known records of the time. RDC Second River is physically located in Belleville, NJ, RDC Stone House Plains is in Bloomfield, NJ.
     Simon Tuers is listed in the History of Nutley, NJ. Belleville, Bloomfield, and Nutley are virtually within walking distance of one another, implying to our research that this is the same family group.
     Simon Tuers is a Civil War Veteran, serving from 3 Sep 1862 until mustered out in 27 Jun 1863 at Newark, NJ. He is listed on the Honor Roll of Sons of Nutley, NJ.
     His name appears in the Nutley History as owner of the Captain Speer House on Bloomfield Avenue (Brown, Elizabeth Stow. (The history of Nutley, Essex County, New Jersey Nutley, N.J.: Woman's Public School Auxiliary, 1907, 73 pgs.)

     Susan Tuers was born between 20 February 1864 and 19 February 1865 at Ridgefield, Bergen County, NJ. She married Henry Spohn on 12 August 1885 at Newark, Essex County, NJ. Susan Tuers died on 19 February 1896 at Montclair, Essex County, NJ. She was buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Upper Montclair, Sec W Lot 3 (Richard Mann holds record.)¹

     Susan Tuers is the great grandmother of Richard Mann.
Information is from her marriage certificate held by Richard Mann. It shows that her father stood up for her during the marriage.

     The 1880 census shows a Susan Tuers living in Montclair, NJ with the family of Richard Tuers. It shows that she is related but does not identify how, it also shows a birth date of 1866 and that she and her parents were born in NJ. The information was obtained from familysearch.com.
     Information about death is from father's pension application from Civil War showing she was dead by that date. Actual date of death is from her death certificate which I have a copy of. The cemetery shows the date of death as 2/13/1896 and the cause as Pericarditis. Married name: Susan Spohn. Nick Name: Susie.

     Walter Tuers was born on 31 May 1813 at Hoboken, NJ.² He was baptized on 27 May 1814.³ He married (2) Julia Esther Stevens. Walter Tuers died on 8 September 1909 at Bethel, MI, at the home of Cyrus Tuers.

     Walter Tuers and Julia Tuers appeared on the census of 1860 at Coldwater, Branch County, MI. Cornelius Tuers, Emmaline Tuers, Cyrus Tuers and Viola Tuers were enumerated with them. Cornelius is listed as Cornelia (12 yo male) en Alford is not listed; instead there is Jane (11 yo female.)⁴ Walter Tuers was a farmer in 1860, and a shoemaker.⁵
     Cannot confirm Walter as child, however, his gg grandson, Earl Tuers, Jr. notes that family records indicate two brothers - Joseph and John (?). These names appear to correlate with this family. We welcome correction of this record when source records are made available.
     The family oral history has it that Walter had three sons all killed at Gettysburg, and therefore he moved west to start anew. We have reviewed all of the New Jersey Civil War recorded records for this family, and cannot confirm this as historically accurate. We believe that the name of Walter's first wife might be Ann Van Winkle since we hold the record for the marriage of Adeline Tuers, daughter of Walter Tuers and Ann Van Winkle in Oakville MI in 1857 to John Wesley Thurston. The record indicates that Walter is from Newark, NJ and that Adeline was born in New York in 1836. We welcome any information that would clarify this mystery.
     In the 1860 Census, Jane, age 11 and in the 1870 Census, Jane, age 21 is shown living in the household. In the 1870 Census, probably Alvin Bonner, who married 1870 Emeline Sophronia Tuers - is shown as a farm laborer, age 23, living in the household.
     Walter purchased a cemetery lot upon death of daughter Alice.

     William Gilman Tuers was born on 11 June 1845 at New Jersey (1880 Census age is 35.) He married Martha J (?) William Gilman Tuers died on 8 May 1914 at Santa Cruz, CA.²

     1880 Census shows William as widowed, living in San Jose, Santa Clara, CA with father, Joseph, age 62; son, Harry age 8; and, daughter, Grace, age 6.^3,4
     In the Jan 1901, Pacific Reporter, the California Supreme Court case of Tuers v. Tuers was reported. The divorced wife of William G. Tuers, Martha J. Tuers filed suit because William had deeded title of his property to his daughter Grace Patterson, and her husband. The court found in William's behalf since he did not have knowledge, at the time, of his wife's filing for divorce.
     While brother John became a professional entertainer, Billy Tuers remained in Santa Clara, but participated in many amateur theatricals. It also noted that he was blind in his later years (Santa Clara County History. )

     He died at age 21 as the result of diving into the water while swimming and striking a submerged object (a milk can) that had fallen off a wagon the night before as it crossed the bridge from whence he dove.³

Frank Knight, age 20, laborer is living in the household. William's sister, Sarah was married to Alfred Knight, so Frank Knight may very well have been William's brother-in-law, although the census doesn't provide that indication. William M Tuers and Lucinda (Lucy) Tuers appeared on the census of 1880 at Denville, NJ. Living with him was niece Eveline Knight, age 14, born in Maryland, presumably daughter of his sister, Sarah, who died in 1878. Daughter Cornelia, who was age 5 in 1870, is not listed.
