     Michael Rogers and Ellen MacAneny immigrated in 1847.¹ Michael Rogers and Ellen MacAneny appeared on the census of 1850 at 15th Ward, New York City, NY. Listed are: Michael Rogers (40, M, Laborer, b. Ireland, cannot read or write), Ellen Rogers (40, F, b. NY), Ann (15, F, b. NY), James (13, M, b. NY, attends school), John (11, M, b. NY, attends school), Thomas (9, M, b. NY, attends school), Charles (7, M, b. NY, attends school), Arthur (5, M, b. NY.)²
     A visit to the National Archives in Bayonne on 1 Jul 1982 revealed in the 1850 Census the existence of this man, his family, and the fact that he was an illiterate laborer born in Ireland. The fact that records exist on him gave impetus to further family research. The fact that this Census was the first to list the names and ages of all in the household, and tells us much about the Rogers family, despite the fact that only the father is listed as having been born in Ireland. Family stories relate that they all came from Ireland, and son Thomas's death certificate states he was 6 years old when he emigrated from Ireland.¹
     The NYC Directory gives the following information (but so far it has not been definitely proven that they are our Rogers family, although Michael was a laborer, and carmen and coalmen would come under that category)

     Rose Rogers was born in 1589/90 at Stratford, Warwickshire, England.¹ She was baptized on 29 March 1590 at Stratford, England.¹

     Ruth Rogers was born in 1910.¹ She died in 1968 unmarried.¹

     Samuel Rogers married Patience Potts, daughter of William Potts and Rebecca Avery, on 28 April 1707 at Groton, CT.¹

     Samuel Rogers lived after 1707 at Branford, CT.¹

     Thomas Rogers was born in 1565 at Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire, England.¹ He married Alice Calle on 5 November 1581.¹ Thomas Rogers died on 7 August 1608 at Stratford on Avon.¹ He was buried on 20 February 1610/11.¹

     NOTE: It seems very strange that he died in 1607/8 and was buried in 1611!

     Thomas Rogers was born on 16 June 1841 at Ireland.¹ He married Eliza A Graham, daughter of David Graham and Matilda Sherman, in 1862.¹ Thomas Rogers died on 11 September 1914 at New York, NY, of hardening of the arteries at age 73.¹ He was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside.¹

     His Death certificate,#26922, indicates that he was born in Ireland and came to the US in 1847 (age 6 - this is more probable- the height of the potato famine.)² Eliza and Thomas lived across the street from each other before they were married. According to the 1859-60 NYC Directory, she lived with her parents at 228 Sullivan St. when she was 19, and the Rogers family lived at 233 Sullivan. She was disowned by her Scotch family and never again had any contact with them after marrying the Irish Catholic Thomas Rogers, according to her granddaughter, Elizabeth Callanan.¹ Thomas Rogers and Eliza A Graham appeared on the census of 1880 at 251 85th St, New York City, NY. Listed as: Thomas Rogers (white male age 40 b. Ireland), Eliza (wife, age 40), Emma (daughter, 17), Ella (daughter, 15), Lillie (daughter, 12), Joseph (son, 10), Thomas (son, 4), Matilda (daughter, 1.)^1,3 Thomas Rogers and Eliza A Rogers appeared on the census of 1900 at 238 E.82nd St, New York City, NY. Listed as: Thomas Rogers (age 59 b. Ireland Citizenship NA), Eliza (wife, b. Mar 1849, 60, b. NY), Ella (daughter, b. Apr 1865, 35, b. NY), Joseph (son, b. Oct 1869, 30, b. NY), Thomas C. (son, Aug 1875, 24, b. NY), Fulda (Matilda, Oct 1878, 21, b. NY), George W. (son, Oct 1882, 17, b. NY), Lillian G. (daughter, Aug 1891, 8, b. NY, error? is this Lillie's daughter?)⁴

     According to the 1859-60 NYC Directory, his father was listed as living at 233 Sullivan St, the same year the Grahams lived at 228 Sullivan St. Where were they between 1859-60, when he was living at home with parents at 233 Sullivan St. and 1865-66 Directory listing? Civil War? Not in NY?
He was part owner of the marble works of Kelly and Rogers at 1614 2nd Ave. NYC. His business card reads:

BIOGRAPHY: It is possible that the patterned marble is Irish - Black marble comes from Galway, green from Connemara, and rose from Cork.

BIOGRAPHY: 19 June 1987- From a conversation with Joanne Cleary, his great-grandaughter:
Joanne had been in correspondence with one of his daughters some time earlier and the daughter reminisced about her father Thomas. Evidently he was a real terror when he indulged in binge drinking, and his wife Elizabeth was terrified of him in that condition.¹

     Timothy Rogers was born circa 1690 at Marshfield, MA, (probably.)¹ He married Lydia Hatch, daughter of Israel Hatch and Elizabeth Hatch, on 4 February 1719/20 at Scituate, MA.¹ Timothy Rogers died on 10 December 1763 at Marshfield, MA, (probably.)¹

     Timothy Rogers was born on 23 April 1650 at Scituate, MA.¹ He married Eunice Stetson, daughter of Robert Stetson and Honour Tucker, circa 1669.¹ Timothy Rogers died circa 1728 at Marshfield, MA, (probably.)¹

     Harriet Rolff married Frederick Randolph Kruger, son of Louis Kruger and Harriet Fitzrandolph.¹ Harriet Rolff died in 1959.²

     Eugene Roll was born in 1886 at New Jersey.^2,3 He died in 1964.²

     He is working as a brick layer and living with parents in 1910 census in Rahway, NJ.

     Fytje Roll was baptized on 26 May 1740.¹ She married Jacob Mersereau on 17 October 1755.¹ Fytje Roll died before 29 March 1779.¹

     George Washington Roll was born on 21 June 1852 at New Jersey. He married Matilda J Tuers, daughter of John Jasper Tuers and Delia Jane Hennion, on 28 October 1874 at Springfield, Union County, NJ.²

     In the 1880 census in Linden Twp, the families of Samuel O.(aged 62, with Wesley, aged 11), Theodore (aged 30, wife Mary, two children), William S (aged 48, wife Lizzie, six children), live nearby (same sheet). George W. (aged 26, wife Matilda, daughter Jennie) lives in the same house as Samuel O, but different household. In 1910 census George W. Roll has relocated to Rahway, Union, NJ.^2,3 George Washington Roll was between 1880 and 1910 a mason or brick layer.^4,5
     In the 1920 census in Union, NJ, there is a widower George ROLL living with his widowed daughter, Hazel HOUSER. They are the right ages to be this George and daughter Hazel. Records indicate that George and Matilda are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Linden, NJ.²

     A Anthony Romaine (34, b. Italy) is listed in the 1930 census in Paterson with his wife Dora (24, b. NJ), and 3 children, all b. NJ: Joseph (3y 4m), Eleanor (1y 8m), Ernestine (8m). They were married 5 years.²
     A Anthony Romaine (44, b. Italy) is listed in the 1940 census in Paterson with his wife Dora (34, b. NJ), and 5 children, all b. NJ: Joseph (13), Eleanor (11), Ernestine (10), Nancy (9), and Gloria (7.)³
     Anthony and Victoria are buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He died in 1951, she in 1986. Sh is listed as Vittoria "Dora" DeFilippis Romaine.^4,5
     An Eleanor Romaine Fontana and her husband Joseph are buried in Mount Calvary in Butler, NJ.⁶ Name variation: Dora Romaine.^2,3

     Adrienne Romaine was born in 1894 at New Jersey.² She married Paul M Corten.^1,2

     Anthony Romaine was born in 1892 at New York.² He married Madeline (?)^1,2

     Anthony Romaine and Madeline (?) lived at Bogota, NJ.¹
1930 Fed. census: Household of Anthony Romaine, 386 Orchard Terrace, Bogota, Bergen County, NJ. Household consists of Anthony, his wife Madeline and their children Paul, James, Viola, Margaret, Thomas and Gerald.²
     Their parents were born in Italy, so it is unlikely they are related to the Early Bergen Romain(e)s. They are not listed in the Romain book.³

     Arthur Romain was born on 18 October 1888.¹ He married Elsie Birdsell Doremus, daughter of Albert Michael Doremus and Mary Ann Lees, on 17 August 1910 at Christ Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ.¹ Arthur Romain died on 20 June 1931.¹

     Benjamin Romaine was born on 10 July 1804 at Franklin, NJ.² He married Charity Hopper, daughter of Gerrit J Hopper and Elizabeth Ackerman, on 25 June 1825 at Wyckoff, NJ.^1,2

     Benjamin enlisted at Fort Hamilton, NY, 20 Dec 1846 in Co. I (1st later the 2nd) NY Volunteers commanded by Col. Ward B Burnett. He was one of 12,000 men who went to Mexico with Gen. Winfield Scott. He was disharged as a corporal Jul 21 1848 at Fort Hamilton, NY.² Name variation: Benjamin R Romeyn.²

     Blanchard Romaine was born on 3 October 1879 at New York City, NY.⁴ He married Carrie B Church in 1904.^5,6

     Blanchard Romaine had another son Westervelt, b. 1911.⁵ He was a musician in 1930; a salesman for a retail coal business in 1940.^5,6 Name variation: Blanchard DeBaun Romaine.⁴

     Rev. Blanchard Romaine was born in 1916.²

     In 1940 he was in college.²
     A Rev. Blanchard Romaine is mentioned in Red Bank (Daily Register of 7 Mar 1975, comes up in search results, but can't find the mention). In 1945 he was in Bloomfield, NJ (Fulton History.com: Pearl River NY Orangetown Telegram 1943-1946 - 0488.pdf (9 Mar 1945.))

     Charles C Romain was born in February 1891 at New Jersey.^1,2 He married Elizabeth (?) in 1913.^3,4 Charles C Romain died on 17 March 1955 at age 64.¹

     Charles Card Romain was born in 1863 at New Jersey.² He married (1) an unknown woman.² He married (2) Martha J (?) in 1897.³

     He was married twice, the second marriage lasted 5 yrs; his wife is not listed in the 1910 census. The 1910 census lists three more children: Clarence (son, 20), Lester (son, 17) and Rachel (daughter, 12). Charles is a hotel keeper.² Charles Card Romain and Martha had two children: Rachel (2) and Nellie (0).³
     In the 1905 NJ census Charles and the four older children are listed separately from Martha (b. May 1878) with two children (Rachael, Jan 1898; Ned Charles, Apr 1901). Charles is listed as divorced; Martha is not clear what it says.
Charles is a contractor, Martha is a housekeeper.^4,5

     Christyntjen Romain married Abraham Vreeland, son of Isaac Vreeland and Tryntje Simese Van Winkle, on 24 May 1744 at DRC, Hackensack, NJ.^1,2
