     John Axford II was born on 20 November 1735 at Oxford Twp, Warren County, NJ.¹ He married Abigail Hunt, daughter of Samuel Hunt and Abigail Knowlton, on 23 November 1758 (at the bride's home near the Yellow Frame Church.)² He died on 7 January 1809 at Oxford Twp, Warren County, NJ, at age 73 on the old homestead.¹
     He left a will on 22 June 1808. It was probated 15 Mar 1809.¹

     He was a renowned lawyer who was the authority on the law of real estate. He is on the Law Faculty of the University of Detroit. His lectures were published under the title of 'Michigan Conveyancing' and a copy is found in nearly every Michigan law office.²
     Lloyd and Henry Axford wrote a supplement of 10 pages on the genealogy of the Axford family in the second edition, vol. XIV, of a series published by The Pioneer and Historical Society of Michigan. This material was largely based on material gathered by Elizabeth Axford Flummerfelt, who was one of the earliest genealogists of the Axford family.
