Robert came from New Windsor. He was a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. In 1785 he purchased 20 acres from his uncle John Burnet; then in 1791 bought the remainder of the farm. In 1801 he purchased 100 acres from his father.1 He was an Ensign in Captain McClaughrey's company of militia; 2nd Lieutenant in Col. Lamb's Regiment at West Point. Served as Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk, and as a member of the Assembly. He lived in the old homestead (Source: History of New Windsor, NY, pg. 102.)1 He was educated at Rev. John Moffat's Academy, Orange County, NY in 1780.1 Name variation: Col. Robert Burnet.2
