Barnabas Day1

     Barnabas Day married Mary Berdet.1
     The only record of this family is found at Bergen (Jersey City) where the three children were baptized. The mother's name is possibly the same as Bourdette found on other church records.1 He lived before 1776 at Bergen, NJ.2      Barbabas bought 40 acres of land near Goshen, NY and stayed there until he was caught at New Bridge with a cart load of beef headed for NYC. He was prosecuted as a Loyalist but eventually got to NYC where he joined the militia. In 1783 he removed to Montreal and spent the winter at Sorrel Island. He received land on the Lake Ontario waterfront at what is now Kingston, Ontario.2

     Abraham and his son Jacob were adjudged 'Dissafected persons' like many others in the Revolutionary War period, in 1777, but were discharged upon taking the oaths prescribed by Law.1
     He was alive in 1777 when arrested and discharged.1
