Michael Rogers1
M, b. 1810, d. after 1862
Michael Rogers married Ellen MacAneny.1 He was born in 1810 at Ireland.1 He died after 1862 at New York, NY.1
1 Jul 1982- visit to the National Archives in Bayonne revealed in the 1850 Census the existance of this man, his family, and the fact that he was an illiterate laborer born in Ireland. The fact that records exist on him gave impetus to further family research. The fact that this Census was the first to list the names and ages of all in the household, and tells us much about the Rogers family, despite the fact that only the father is listed as having been born in Ireland. Family stories relate that they all came from Ireland, and son Thomas's death certificate states he was 6 years old when he emigrated from Ireland.
27 Aug 1850 Federal Census 253-484 15th Ward, reel 552.

Charles 7 M b. NY
Arthur 5 M b. NY
There was also a notation that James, John, Thomas and Charles attended school in the past year. (Their parents no doubt wanted them to have the advantages Michael didn't have.)
The NYC Directory gives the following information, but so far it has not been definitely proven that they are our Rogers family, although Michael was a laborer, and carmen and coalmen would come under that category.
1850-51 Rogers, Ellen school 214 Ave 6
1853-54 Rogers, Michael laborer 68 Cannon
1854-55 Rogers, Michael carman 229 Sullivan
1855-56 Rogers, Michael ' ' '
1859-60 Rogers, Michael coal h.r. 233 Sullivan-
This is surely our family, because the same year the Grahams
lived at 228 Sullivan, and Eliza and Thomas were neighbors. The 1860 Census also confirms this address for the family.
