     Claes Janse Romeyn was born in 1640 at Amsterdam, The Netherlands.^1,2 He married Styntji Albertse Terhune, daughter of Albert Albertse Terhune and Geertje De Nyce, on 2 May 1680 at Amerfoort (Gravesend), NY.^1,3 He died between 1731 and 18 May 1732 at Greenwich, NY.^1,3
     He was a cooper.⁴      Jan sailed from Rotterdam to Brazil in 1650. He came to Long Island in 1654. On 9 Mar 1679 he bought a plantation in Gravesend where he lived for several years. In 15 May 1696 Major John Berry conveyed to Claes land that lay between the Hackensack and Saddle Rivers, adjoing land of Albert Albertse Terhune and Urian Luberts.⁴
