Anna was the only surviving child of Anton (Goldene Antony) Kneissl. He disapproved of her marriage to Andreas, a poor ropemaker. Anton was quite prosperous and known for holding mortgages on his relative's homes. As Anna was pregnant, she and Andreas married in Palling some distance from Schrobenhausen, but Anton and Philip Dollinger, Andreas' step-father witnessed the wedding. (Wedding record from microfilm in the Salt Lake City Library.) Either she miscarried or the infant died very early, because her daughter Ottilie was the first recorded child of the marriage.
Widowed at 53 in 1901, Anna set up her oldest son Andreas in a Sileri (ropemaking business) in Aichach, and purchased the building in which her daughter and son in law Johann (who was her first cousin) set up business in Fuerstenfeldbruck.
Her son Raimund also became a Seilermeister and ran the business for his mother until he married.
She then moved in to her father's house (he lived until 1906)in the Stadtmauer (city wall) around the corner from the convent of the Englische Fraulein - an order of nuns expelled from England by Henry VIII, where her granddaughter Anna Kneissl (Hofstetter) lived with her and attended the school from 1914-1917.
In her later years she lived with her daughter, Ottilie Schafer Kneissl, in Fuerstenfeldbruck.

Hans Kneissl, a first cousin of Anna Kneissl Hofstetter, had been a (Oberamtsrat) chief county official in Utting and when visited in 1981, was the first to show his Ahnentafel Book. It was required of all in the military, universities, etc. by the Nazi regime that one's ancestry be confirmed in official records. When approved (showing there was no Jewish ancestry) it was stamped with the official Nazi swastika symbol. Hans provided an enormous amount of Kneissl data for this genealogy with the information it contained on the Kneissl ancestry, but said that because of the swastika, many people threw these booklets away when Bavaria was occupied by the U.S. Army after WWII.
He was the eldest Kneissl present at the Kneissl family reunion (Treffung) in 1989, and of all the Kneissls in his generation was outlived only by his cousin Anna (14)in Baltimore.1
