Arthur Wickman Dalrymple was an Episcopalian.
Dal was born 12 January 1901 in Newark, NJ. His mother died when he was eight years old and his father committed suicide on her grave two years later. His siblings had died in infancy. Now an orphan, he was raised by his paternal grandmother. At age 15 he lied about his age so he could join the Navy. After World War I, he went to the U. S. Maritime Academy and graduated second from the top of his class. He went on to TriStatc College in Indiana to get his Masters Degree and in 192R was sent to Barranquilla, Colombia, South America by his employer, Electric Bond and Share, to install the first electric plant and aqueduct in that city. He had his degrees in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. When World War II broke out, he returned to the U.S. to sign up for the war but the powers that be decided it was more important to use his talents building Liberty ships for the war effort so that is what he did until the end of the war. When it was over, he went back to Barranquilla and opened his own business. Soon after,he was hired by The Ellicott Machine Corporation in Baltimore, MD to represent them in the world market selling dredges. He retired in 1957 to Ormond Beach, Florida.3 Name variation: Dal Dalrymple.
