Myndert and his brother, Carsten, both smiths, were among the early settlers of Beverwyck. They immigrated from Iveren, Holland. They were both Lutherans: Myndert was an elder and Carsten a deacon in 1680. Some of Myndert's descendants took the name of Myndert and others took Van Iveren.¹
