Abbet as one of the managers of the State Isane Asylum at Morris Plains. He served as clerk of the House of Assembly in 1884 and for 5 years as Sec. of the Senate. He was president of the NJ Editorial Assoc. in 1887 and a member of the NY Press Club. In 1880 he was elected to the Assembly and reelected in 1884 for a 3 year term. He was senator from Bergen County 1890 to 1895 and served as chairman of the Committees on Corporations., Treasurer's Accounts and Printing. He was a member of Pioneer Lodge F and A M, Odd Fellows, Elks and trustee of the Unitarion Church of Newark.1
