     He was a machinist for New London Northern RR, Standard Machine, Mystic, CT.³      The family originally went to Canada from England, and moved down to Connecticut. After first working for Browns Cotton Gin in New London (1888 New London Directory), Robert worked as a machinist first for New London Northern Railroad (1892 New London Directory), and then for Standard Machine in Mystic. When his son's doctor advised him to see to it that the boy lived his life in the outdoors, he became a fisherman. Son William, spent most of his life fishing out of Mystic/Stonington, CT.

Robert became a US citizen in September 1890.¹

     Wealthy W Holliday was born on 4 December 1897 at Westerly, Washington County, RI. She married Douglas Lithgow Macdonald, son of George Hugh McDonald and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Ashbey, on 1 May 1914 at Noank, Groton, New London County, CT.^3,4 She died on 3 March 1919 at Groton, New London County, CT, at age 21. She was buried in the Noank Cemetery in Groton.
     He married Wealthy Holliday in an evening ceremony, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Potter at 8:30 PM. The bride wore a tango colored traveling suit with hat to match. The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDonald. They made their home at Prospect Hill in Noank, Groton, CT.⁵
     She died of complications of childbirth, and also was sick at the time of delivery. Wealthy was suffering from broncho-pneumonia and influenza at the time Douglas McDonald was born prematurely at 6 months term of pregnancy.³ Married name: Wealthy W Macdonald.

     WW I Draft Registration Card lists place of birth as Hope Valley, RI. As of June 5, 1917 he was self-employed in fishing, living at 1 Noank Road, Mystic, CT. He is described as having hazel eyes and brown hair, and states that he has a "bad" arm.

Became a fisherman because he had typhoid fever and the doctor advised a life in the outdoors if he wanted to be healthy. Began fishing with his father, Robert.
